It's not often you'll see one of those in sunlight!

This gorgeous moth has just landed to get his bearings. He got lost on his way home, after a day partying with a ladybird!

This guy took a lot of effort to create. I saw the labradorite skull while browsing for gems, and had the idea of a moth straight away. However, the death's-head hawkmoth is a very tricky insect to represent in glass! There are many images available, with quite a range of different patterns and colours.

This made the pattern design difficult to draw, and the colours a real headache to choose. Not to mention finding the right glass, cutting it into pieces small enough to represent the stunning wings, and grinding the glass precisely enough for everything to fit closely.

Isn't the result worth it, though? I think so. I'm tempted to keep this one... We'll see.

The piece is assembled inside a large metal ring, giving it extra strength and stability.

Two small rings are soldered to it and hold a dainty but strong metal chain, to hang your moth above a window or a light.

Unique piece! I made only one, there is no other like this in the world.

Diameter of metal ring 15cm

Moth wingspan 23cm

Top of hanging chain to top of metal ring 9cm
